A University of Queensland consumer behaviour expert has been named as one of four leading early career researchers in the country.

Dr Felix Septianto, from UQ Business School, has received a 2022 Paul Bourke Award for Early Career Research from the Academy of the Social Sciences in Australia, an honour bestowed to early career social science researchers who have achieved 'excellence in scholarship’ in their field.

Dr Septianto studies the influence of feelings and emotions on judgment and decision making.

“I feel grateful and humbled that my work has been acknowledged by the peak social sciences body in Australia,” Dr Septianto said.

“Over the last five years, I’ve been looking to understand how people’s emotions impact their behaviour in response to marketing and advertising messages.

“In particular, my work focuses on how emotions drive people to donate to charities to help inform marketing strategies used in the not-for-profit sector.”

During his five years as a researcher, Dr Septianto has published 91 peer-reviewed journal articles and received five best paper awards.

In addition to his published work, Dr Septianto’s research contribution has been recognised with multiple research awards, including an ARC DECRA fellowship, the ANZMAC Emerging Marketing Researcher of the Year Award, and a UQ Foundation Research Excellence Award.
