University of Queensland academics have been recognised with 6 awards for their outstanding contribution to teaching and learning in the annual Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT).

UQ received more honours than any other Australian university this year, continuing to be the nation’s most awarded university for teaching excellence in the AAUT’s 26-year history.

Professor Ann Black received a prestigious Award for Teaching Excellence for her two decades as a pioneering law lecturer who empowers her students to learn about different legal systems across cultures. 

Professor Black’s innovative teaching and assessment methods equip her students to be informed global citizens who can evaluate different approaches to law and make sense of law in the world.

UQ received 5 Citations for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning:

  • Professor Sabine Matook  received recognition for her innovative approach to enhancing students' employability in Business Information Systems and inspiring them to give back to community organisations.
  • Dr Frances Shapter was recognised for developing a self-directed learning ecosystem to support veterinary science students to acquire professional skills and build their confidence and effectiveness.
  • Associate Professor Christine Slade received recognition for her leadership in academic integrity to empower institutions against emerging threats and safeguard assessment.
  • The ‘Urban Design Challenge Team’, led by Professor Steven Kenway, and including Dr Paola Leardini, Associate Professor Ilje Pikaar, Dr Mojtaba Moravej, Ms Cathryn Chatburn and Ms Diana Navaro, was recognised for developing the challenge which engages students in solving complex, sustainable urban design problems creatively through gamified learning experiences.  which engages students in solving complex, sustainable urban design problems creatively through gamified learning experiences.
  • Dr Ryan Williams was recognised for developing learning approaches in Studies in Religion that build open-mindedness and constructive engagement with difference in multicultural Australia.
