The Brisbane City Council has advised The University of Queensland that construction of six temporary ferry terminals damaged by the January floods — including the UQ terminal — has recommenced.
The following terminals will have interim structures installed by the end of April:
• The University of Queensland
• Regatta, Toowong
• North Quay
• QUT Gardens Point
• Holman Street
• Sydney Street
Works will include removal of remaining damaged infrastructure, repairs to pylons, and construction of waiting areas, gangways and pontoons.
Construction materials for all terminals will be brought to sites by barge as much as possible to minimise road traffic disruptions.
Chair of the Council's Public and Active Transport Councillor Margaret de Wit has advised the University that every effort will be made to minimise disruption to the local community during these works.
"Particularly noisy works or major access changes are not expected, however, advanced notification will be provided to nearby properties if required," she said.
"The timing for replacing the temporary structures with permanent terminals that are built to withstand major flooding is dependent on funding from the Federal Government's National Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements."
The West End terminal would be rebuilt and upgraded in line with detailed designs planned and approved prior to the floods and was expected to be completed by mid-year.
A partial CityCat and ferry service operating from 15 re-opened terminals commenced on February 14.
Councillor de Wit said Council looked forward to restoring full service as soon as possible following the installation of temporary structures to flood-damaged terminals.
