UQ MBA student Daniel Lewis will open the first of a planned chain of small convenience stores opposite Sunnybank train station next week.

A natural born entrepreneur, Mr Lewis started helping out in his father’s retail business at the age of eight and opened his first business two years later.

Mr Lewis said he was looking forward to putting his MBA studies to work in his new business.

“The aim with this business is to generate funds that can be applied to larger investment opportunities," he said.

“I plan to own two more stores by the time I graduate at the end of semester two, with a total turnover of more than a million dollars.

“My biggest problem will be juggling competing demands on my time with the MBA going full-time, managing my current store and opening the new ones.

“I’m also looking forward to creating a living, breathing business out of some buildings, shop fittings, and stock.”

Mr Lewis said his first business offered dog-walking services to neighbours – the 10-year-old promoted his services using hand-drawn leaflets.

Since that time Mr Lewis has worked in Germany and Australia, where among other things he has owned, operated and sold small companies in retail and IT services.
