Bridging the knowledge gap between higher education and the workplace is the focus of The University of Queensland’s new Business Leadership MicroMasters program.

MicroMasters is designed to prepare emerging and experienced leaders for facing modern complexities and challenges through a range of programs offered in an interactive and flexible online format.

Program coordinator Associate Professor Tyler Okimoto from UQ Business School said the innovative format meant students could be taken from an online classroom to a guest lecture or even into a CEO’s office and then back again.

“They can also engage in a focused discussion with thousands of other students from countries around the world,” Dr Okimoto said.

“These diverse sources of learning serve as a point of student reflection for developing their own personal leadership journey.”

Each course in the new Business Leadership MicroMasters program integrates current academic theories and the wisdom of experienced leaders.

“Effective leadership requires an ability to lead teams, direct the vision of the organisation, navigate broader social and economic influences on the business, and perhaps most importantly, engage in constructive self-reflection,” he said.

“By focusing each of the four courses on one of these key competencies, we aim to help develop well-rounded future leaders.”

MicroMasters programs are a modular and flexible credential for the digital age that promises to serve as academic currency in a continuous, lifelong-learning world.

The program supports an inverted admissions process, allowing learners everywhere to try master’s level course work from UQ before committing to a master’s degree.

UQ joins edX and top global university partners in expanding the MicroMasters program, offering learners everywhere access to high-quality, career-focused education.

The Business Leadership MicroMasters program begins on 10 October 2017 and is currently open for enrolment.
