A University of Queensland and Monash University sponsorship has enabled six Australian high school students to attend an international supercomputing conference in New Orleans, USA last week.

The International Conference for High Performance Computing, Networking, Storage and Analysis is one of the most significant events for supercomputing.

Students were selected from the John Monash Science School (JMSS) in Melbourne and the Queensland Academy of Science, Mathematics and Technology (QASMT).

Professor David Abramson, from UQ’s Centre for Research Computing, said it was exciting to see how much the students gained from the conference, which primarily targets professionals.

“The schools had been collaborating on a project to monitor environmental parameters around their school buildings, and the students were able to present some of this data to delegates from around the world at the conference,” Professor Abramson said.
