Brisbane City Council is partnering with The University of Queensland to replace the roundabout at the intersection of Sir Fred Schonell Drive, Coldridge Street and Munro Street with traffic lights and a tee-junction.

UQ Property and Facilities Director Alan Egan said the upgrade would improve safety and traffic flow at the busy intersection.

He said there would be no access to or from Munro St from the intersection.

Mr Egan said construction was scheduled to take place from March to June 2014.

“Council and UQ are committed to minimising the impact of the works on the community as much as possible,” he said.

Service utility investigation works to facilitate the intersection upgrade will be undertaken on Wednesday, 4 December and possibly Thursday 5  December - weather permitting.

Approximate times will be from 9am until 4pm, but workers may be seen setting up or dismantling equipment and machinery outside of these hours.

These works will require temporary footpath closures and partial traffic lane closures.

The sign-posted speed through the roundabout will be reduced through the work site and temporary rerouting of pedestrians may be required. Motorists may also experience minor traffic delays. Traffic controllers and signs will be in place to guide motorists and pedestrians.

The Brisbane City Council and The University of Queensland apologise for any disruption caused by the temporary works and appreciate your patience while this important investigative work is carried out.
