Youth leaders from universities all over Australia gathered at The University of Queensland’s (UQ) Gatton campus recently for the AIESEC Youth Leadership Conference.

The annual conference, organised by Australia’s AIESEC National Committee, attracted 200 university students and encouraged attendees to be active global citizens and gain leadership experience and skills.

AIESEC is the world's largest student-run organisation and is present in over 110 countries and territories and has over 60,000 members and president of Australia’s AIESEC National Committee, Robert Gomm, said the conference helped young people realise how they can make an impact in the world.

“I joined AIESEC to improve my leadership skills. I feel that is it is important to get more out of university life than just your degree. Being involved in AIESEC has definitely helped me to achieve this,” Mr Gomm said.

“The conference sessions were designed to improve our skills so that once we reach the workforce we can create an impact.

“The conference was really exciting, seeing the delegates and the way they interacted in the sessions was really inspiring. It is great to see young Australians taking an interest in the future.

“The Gatton site has been the most excellent conference site I’ve been too. Queensland is sunny, the facilities are state- of- the-art and the meals have been amazing.”

Being involved in AIESEC provides a platform to participate in international internships, experience leadership and participate in a global learning environment.

“Through my work with AIESEC I have travelled to Mexico, India and Singapore to attend conferences and later in the year I am going to Kenya for the International Congress,” Mr Gomm said.
