Current Year 12 students planning to study at UQ in 2006 are advised that applications for admission have opened via the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC).
Students should lodge applications to QTAC (www.qtac.edu.au) by September 30 for 2006 entry.
University of Queensland Vice-Chancellor Professor John Hay AC said he sympathized with school leavers and their families.
“This is a nerve-racking time of year for Year 12 students preparing for examinations and at the same time, having to make decisions about their future lives, “ he said.
“Students should be assured that they have one of the best Australian universities right on their doorstep.
“UQ qualifications are internationally recognized, and will stand you in good stead throughout your life.”
The University of Queensland is Queensland’s oldest and largest University and offers more than 6000 courses and 400 programs.
UQ is in the top five Australian universities and the only Queensland university to perform outstandingly well in a newly-published table of teaching quality at 38 publicly-funded Australian universities.
The University of Queensland has again received the best overall rating of all Queensland universities and one of the best Australian university rankings in the 2006 edition of the Good Universities Guide (GUG). It has also won more national teaching excellence awards than any other Australian university.
UQ received the maximum five-star rating for key indicators including “student demand”, “positive graduate outcomes” (reflecting both graduate employment and continuation to further study), “staff qualifications”, “research grants”, and “research intensiveness”.
UQ has three main campuses — UQ St Lucia, UQ Ipswich and UQ Gatton, all of which combine the latest technology in teaching, course delivery and research infrastructure.
The University is a member of the Group of Eight, an elite group of universities which conducts 70 percent of all University research in Australia. UQ is one of only three Australian members of Universitas 21, an international network of comprehensive, research-intensive universities committed to quality through benchmarking against world-best practice.
