The University of Queensland (UQ) and The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) have been discussing the future of the UQ Ipswich Campus. The discussions have focused on ways of increasing tertiary education opportunities in the region.
UQ and USQ have now exchanged legally binding agreements; upon Treasury and Commonwealth approvals, the formal transfer of the UQ Ipswich Campus to USQ will occur on 7 January 2015.
UQ will continue to have access to the Ipswich Campus during a two-year Teach-Out period in 2015 and 2016. This will enable most UQ students currently enrolled in Ipswich-based programs to complete their study with UQ at the Ipswich Campus.
UQ will also continue to have a longer-term presence on the campus with the UQ Health Care GP superclinic and Dietetics Clinic.
USQ and UQ have different strategic goals and strengths. The formal agreement between UQ and USQ allows both universities to concentrate on their strengths, and benefit the Ipswich community and Queensland as a whole.
