UQ Sport is offering Brisbane and Lockyer Valley residents free access to more than 70 Group Fitness activities across The University of Queensland’s St Lucia and Gatton campuses.

The free Come & Try program will run from Monday 22 to Friday 26 October and is open to UQ students and staff, as well as the general public.

Participants at UQ St Lucia can sample a range of health and wellbeing activities, including yoga, pilates and cardio tennis.

UQ Sport Fitness Centre Venue Manager Paul Parker said the Come & Try program will also feature Les Mills classes.

“Les Mills workouts are some of our most popular and we’re excited to introduce five new releases during the Come & Try period, allowing participants to sample new moves and music,” Parker said.

“Our group fitness classes are open to people of all ages and fitness levels, with a host of holistic health and high-intensity sessions to choose from.”

Come & Try participants at St Lucia can also attend free swimming sessions, such as adult swim squads and fin fit.

UQ Sport Aquatic Centre Venue Manager Vlad Fodor said a new aqua aerobics class will launch during the free trial period.

“Aqua aerobics is a great low-impact activity and is an ideal workout that delivers many cardiovascular and therapeutic benefits,” Mr Fodor said.

“The introduction of this new class follows the recent launch of a Water Polo Club that caters to both social and competitive players from all over Brisbane.”

A free Glow in the Dark Zumba® event will also be held (6pm, Tuesday 23 October, UQ Sport Fitness Centre) in conjunction with the inaugural BLOOM – A UQ Jacaranda Festival.

Lockyer Valley residents can attend up to eight free Group Fitness sessions at UQ’s Gatton campus, including boxfit, and strength fit.

UQ Sport Gatton Manager Sarah Bundy said the free classes range from 30-60 minutes.

“Our HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and ABT Dynamo (Abbs, Butt & Thighs) classes are perfect for those who want to break up the workday with an energetic, all-body workout,” Mrs Bundy said.

“We also have experienced instructors leading our popular pilates and yoga classes, while boot camp is a great workout to kick-start any fitness journey.”

In addition to the Come & Try Program, UQ Sport is offering heavily discounted Gold Memberships as part of its Summer Sale promotion.

From Monday 22 October to Friday 30 November, patrons can purchase a Three Month Gold Membership for a $192.50, giving users access to UQ Sport’s venues and Group Fitness classes, as well as a complimentary one hour fitness consultation.
