With Diversity Week around the corner, members of the University community are encouraged to explore UQ’s growing Multi-Faith Chaplaincy (MFC).

The service celebrated is 40th anniversary in 2008, and provides pastoral care and guidance to thousands of people each year.

MFC chaplains represent Anglican, Buddhist (Pureland), Greek Orthodox, Jewish, Lutheran, Muslim, Roman Catholic and Uniting faiths, and are available to all staff and students, regardless of their religious background.

“We provide completely secular pastoral care, and invite people who are curious, seeking, struggling or even looking for a challenge to come and spend some time with our chaplains,” MFC Manager Andrea Colledge said.

Chaplains are available to discuss many different issues including aspects of spirituality, stress, ethics and religious diversity.

A public lecture on May 19 provides an opportunity for staff and students to get a feel for the chaplaincy’s services and mission.

The free event will take place at 10am, and be presented by Swami Sridharananda of the Queensland Ramakrishna Vedanta Center, who will discuss the topic “Evolution on the concept of the Divine”.

As part of Diversity Week, the MFC will also host a “Festival of Faith” in the Holt Room on May 26 from 11am–2pm.

Ms Colledge said she was excited to announce the arrival of a new addition to the team.

“We are looking forward to welcoming our newest Chaplain Fr. Morgan Batt, who is not only a Catholic priest and a decorated army chaplain, but a mountain climber as well!”

The MFC is located in the Social Sciences Annexe (Building 38), and is open Monday to Friday from 8am to 4pm. If you’d like to make an appointment to meet with a chaplain, please call (07) 3365 6439.
