The University of Queensland will award honorary doctorates to six recipients during its upcoming December graduation period.

The honorary doctorates will be officially presented at some of the 18 UQ graduation ceremonies to be held between Friday, December 10, and Saturday, December 18, this year. A record of more than 6400 graduands will receiving their degrees from UQ during this time.

Honorary doctorate recipients are:

Ms Jan Fullerton AO, Director General of the National Library of Australia. Ms Fullerton will receive a Doctor of Letters honoris causa at a ceremony at 11am on Monday, December 13, in the UQ Centre. Click here to read the full citation.

Professor Gregory McRae, the Hoyt C. Hottel Professor of Chemical Engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and Executive Director of Morgan Stanley in New York. Professor McRae will receive a Doctor of Engineering honoris causa at a ceremony at 11am on Wednesday, December 15, in the UQ Centre. Click here to read full citation.

Mr David Miles AM is a lawyer whose distinguished career has spanned three key areas of interest – the law, business and the community. Mr Miles will receive a Doctor of Laws honoris causa at a ceremony at 11am on Thursday, December 16, in the UQ Centre. Click here to read full citation.

Mr Robert Bryan, who founded Pan Australian Mining Ltd and in the capacity of Managing Director, oversaw the development of a major gold mine at Mt Leyshon. Mr Bryan will be awarded a Doctor of Business honoris causa at a ceremony at 6pm on Thursday, December 16, in the UQ Centre. Click here to read full citation.

Professor Sangkot Marzuki AM, a highly regarded biologist and geneticist who has been leading the Eijkman Institute for Molecular Biology and rebuilding the Institute as the premier research institution in Indonesia since 1992. Professor Marzuki will be awarded a Doctor of Science honoris causa at a ceremony at 2pm on Friday, December 17, in the UQ Centre. Click here to read full citation.

Dr Weiping Xiong, Chairman and General Manager of the Aluminium Corporation of China (CHINALCO), China’s largest metals/mining corporation, and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of its subsidiary, Aluminium Corporation of China Limited (CHALCO).
