UQ is offering places at its three campuses in the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) mid-year offer round for commencement in second semester 2006.

University of Queensland Admissions Manager Mina Singh said prospective students would not have to wait until 2007 if they were considering study at UQ.

“2006 is an excellent year to consider mid-year study as OP cut-off scores are not as tough as they have been in recent years,” she said.

Ms Singh said that it was expected that the minimum OP or rank required for entry in semester 2, 2006 would be the same as the cut-offs for semester 1, 2006 admissions.

“There are many exciting programs on offer at UQ Ipswich, UQ Gatton and at the St Lucia campus,” she said.

Mid-year information sessions will be held at the St Lucia and Ipswich campuses on Wednesday, May 17 from 6.30 to 7.30pm. These sessions will cover the programs available for mid year entry and staff will be available to answer questions.

Ms Singh said mid-year entry students ranged from people who may have completed Year 12 in 2005 and had taken some time to decide what they wanted to study, to students who were resuming their studies or taking up tertiary study for the first time.

Ms Singh also said that applicants who did not have an OP or rank from formal studies were encouraged to apply on the basis of work experience and aptitude for tertiary study. The University recognised that people with a range of qualifications and life experience could develop suitable skills to allow them to undertake tertiary study successfully. The University considered a variety of tertiary, professional and non-formal qualifications for entry.

A list of available courses and the cut-off scores which applied at the start of 2006 are listed on the UQ website visit www.uq.edu.au/study/mid-year.

Students can apply via the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) website — www.qtac.edu.au.

QTAC applications opened on April 12 and close on June 5 (4.30pm) for the June offer round, although applications will still be open in standby mode after that date.

The University of Queensland is participating in QTAC`s June and July offer rounds, for which offers will be released on June 16 and July 12 respectively.
