2 June 2004

Nursing education at the University of Queensland's Ipswich Campus will receive a major boost when leading expert Patricia Heath presents the UQ Ipswich Campus Oration on Monday, June 7.

Mrs Heath was the Chair of the National Nursing Review of Nursing Education conducted by the Commonwealth Government in 2001-2002 and has a wealth of experience in both nursing and educating future nurses.

This Oration is particularly relevant in 2004 as it coincides with the introduction of the Bachelor of Nursing degree at the University.

The Ipswich campus hosts academic teaching for this new program while the practical student placements are currently shared between the Ipswich and Princess Alexandra Hospitals.

There are 60 students studying in the inaugural year of the program with plans to significantly expand the number of places available in coming years.

The University is proud to announce that the Ipswich City Council is again sponsoring the Oration in 2004. Proceedings will commence from 6pm at the Campus Café at the University of Queensland Ipswich campus.
