The Contemporary Studies Program at UQ Ipswich will hold a 2002 mid-year intake program and information session next week for people considering tertiary study.
Program director Dr Leigh Dale said the Bachelor of Contemporary Studies was a specialised Humanities program concerned with change and modernity.
“It is designed to give students strong critical and analytical skills,” she said.
Dr Dale said the free information session on May 9 would be at the UQ Ipswich campus in Salisbury Road, from 2pm to 3.45pm. The venue is Room 120 in Building 28.
University Admissions manager Claron Driscoll will provide advice on admissions processes and options to assist people who are unsure whether they are eligible to attend the program.
Following a question and answer session, afternoon tea, and a program information session conducted by Dr Dale, attendees will have the chance to meet and speak with current and graduate Contemporary Studies students about the program and student life.
Dr Dale said focus areas in the Contemporary Studies program included Media and Communication, Language, Culture and Identity, Australian and Comparative Studies, Ethics and Philosophy, and Nature and Technoscience. In second and third year, students specialise in two of the five focus areas.
The University has a limited number of places available for mid-year entry in the Contemporary Studies and other programs in the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre (QTAC) mid-year offer round for commencement in second semester 2002.
Ms Driscoll said mid-year entry was the perfect opportunity for prospective students who were too late lodging a QTAC application for first semester, or for those whose circumstances had changed this year and now found they have time to study.
Applications can be made via the QTAC website: http://www.qtac.edu.au
As well, QTAC application forms are available from the Student Centres at The University of Queensland`s St Lucia, Ipswich and Gatton campuses, or at Brisbane Customs House. Forms can also be collected from the Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre at Milton or any TAFE college or University campus in Queensland.
The closing date for on-time mid-year applications will be Friday, May 17, 2002. The Queensland Tertiary Admissions Centre will make first round offers on Thursday, June 13, with the final round scheduled for Wednesday, July 3.
