Event Description

Full Description:
Lindy Lee was born 1954 in Brisbane, and currently lives and works in Sydney. Lee’s works from the 1980s began an ongoing investigation into issues of selfhood, identity and authenticity via concepts of the copy and the original.

For the past decade and a half, Lindy Lee’s work has investigated questions of ‘self’ in relation to her Chinese-Australian heritage as framed by her Zen Buddhist practice.

'A Chinese legacy' is a focus exhibition of over 20 works, drawn from the Collection of The University of Queensland that reflects upon the role of Chinese culture and identity, particularly within contemporary Australian art. Included in the exhibition are artists such as Xiao Xian Liu, who migrated to Australia in 1990, and first- and second-generation Chinese-Australians including Lindy Lee, Pamela See and William Yang. 'A Chinese legacy' reflects upon cross-cultural concerns, and in particular considers fractured notions of identity and a sense of ‘home’.
Exhibition continues until 22 November 2009.
Free. All welcome.
