Event Description

Full Description:
Presented by Nathan Albury, PhD Fellow, Center for Multilingualism in Society across the Lifespan, University of Oslo.

This presentation delineates the folk linguistics of language policy from other research approaches. It gives examples of evidence from my recent New Zealand research on the folk linguistics of Māori language revitalisation that what the folk claim to know – and not just feel - is distinguishable and indeed influential in shaping local language policy ideas. It then offers ideas for how the folk linguistics of language policy may be integrated into language policy theory (Albury, in press).
