Full Description:: This lecture will provide a unique spin on contemporary social and political debates by offering a perspective drawn from the study of the ancient world. The ancient Greeks and Romans faced many similar problems to ones that confront us to day (e.g. growing gap between rich and poor, disenchantment with the political process, the problems of processing economic windfalls, esp. from mining).

By looking at how the Ancients rose to these challenges, potential new solutions to old problems arise and old, stale debates get reinvigorated.
