2019 NHMRC Centres of Research Excellence (CREs) – Opening of Internal Nominations
Sponsor: University of Queensland
Closing Date: 28-Sep-2018
Under the NHMRC’s new grant program structure, the existing NHMRC CRE scheme will continue as part of the Strategic and Leveraging Grants scheme.

The NHMRC CRE scheme aims to improve health outcomes and promote translation of research, with CRE funding supporting teams of researchers to pursue collaborative research and develop capacity in clinical, population health and health services research.

NHMRC funding is in the order of $2.5 million per CRE (total over five years) and up to 14 CREs are normally awarded per annum.

UQ INTERNAL EOI PROCESS

Similar to other major competitive Centres programs, an internal EOI is required for all CRE bids involving UQ, be they for lead or non-lead (supporting partner) applications. This internal process ensures early advice of UQ’s developing CRE field, to enable all UQ lead teams to access scientific peer review and strategic input appropriately early in the bid development cycle. Based on the EOI, strategic feedback will be provided to UQ lead CREs by the University’s NHMRC CRE Strategy Panel, and UQ cash commitments formalised for lead proposals. Information on the UQ internal EOI process, including the UQ internal EOI proforma and key dates, can be found on the UQR&I Centres of Research Excellence webpage.

Internal EOIs are now open, and are due to UQR&I by 28 September 2018. The internal EOI form is available from the UQR&I website.

NHMRC KEY DATES

The NHMRC has not yet released dates for 2019 CRE round, however we anticipate that the scheme will open in late October 2018, with applications likely to close in early December 2018
. Key dates will be updated on the UQR&I Centres of Research Excellence webpage when they are available. Applicants are encouraged to join the UQR&I Mailer to be notified of updates to this scheme.

Any scheme-related queries may be directed to the scheme coordinator, Dr Jodi Clyde-Smith, or the UQR&I NHMRC team (nhmrc@research.uq.edu.au).
