Event Description

Full Description:
Presented by The University of Qld Vice-Chancellorís Concert Series in association with QPAC.

Lenny and Dmitri: Cold War Titans features Bernstein and Shostakovich at the height of their compositional powers. Violinist Stefanos Melas - a UQ PhD candidate in music performance - will be the soloist in Bernstein's Serenade after Plato's Symposium. This rare performance of Bernstein's Serenade marks the centenary of the composer's birth. Following interval, The University of Queensland Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Dr Warwick Potter, will perform Shostakovich's politically charged riposte to Stalin's tyranny, Symphony No.10 in E minor. This titanic symphony and major opus from the twentieth century was premiered just ten months after the death of the Soviet leader in 1953.

Tickets are available for purchase via QPAC: www.qpac.com.au/event/uq_lenny_dimitri_18
