Event Description
- Full Description:
- Water Initiatives within IFC Advisory Services – identifying and accounting for water risks and building the financial business case for mitigation.
The World Economic Forum recently ranked water crises as the top global systemic risk to society in terms of impact. Water risks impact IFC investment clients and potential clients in mining as well as other extractive and infrastructure projects. In this seminar, Nadja will introduce some current water initiatives being developed within the Advisory Services team. As an example of our R&D work, a novel framework is being developed to assist sites in identifying water risks that may affect operations. We are also working with IFC’s Financial Valuation tool (http://www.fvtool.com) to justify the business case for mitigating water risks that do not pose direct production impacts. Nadja is also providing feedback on the water metrics to be included within a Voluntary Code of Practice for mining companies in the Gobi region of Mongolia. Throughout the presentation, Nadja will highlight areas of potential overlap with SMI work and seek to explore opportunities for collaboration.
Dr Nadja Kunz completed her PhD at the SMI in 2013, before moving to Switzerland for a two-year postdoctoral position at Eawag (The Swiss Federal Institute for Aquatic Science and Technology). She currently consults for the International Finance Corporation, providing support for water-related projects within Infrastructure & Natural Resources, Advisory Services. Nadja is skilled in connecting the tactical and strategic aspects of water and sustainability management for the resources sector and her interdisciplinary skillset spans across engineering, business and policy.
