Event Description

Full Description:
What is a research mathematician? How is it even possible to do research in mathematics?

Professor Jonathan Jedwab from Simon Fraser University (Canada), will examine these questions by reference to the mathematics and philosophy of Jacques Hadamard, born 150 years ago.

He'll demonstrate that a research mathematician is a combination of problem solver, nitpicker, big picture thinker, experimental scientist, aesthetician and dreamer.

This talk won’t assume any specialist mathematical knowledge.

Light refreshments will be provided at the conclusion of the presentation.
