Event Description

Full Description:
This week the Sustainable Minerals Institute will host a seminar by Mr. Robin Evans, Deputy Director of IM4DC. As the centrepiece of the Australian Government’s Mining for Development initiative, the IM4DC program saw over 2700 participants from 65 countries engage with staff from UQ, UWA and other Australian institutions over the last four years. Activities ranged from Mongolia to Mozambique, Peru to Papua New Guinea and beyond, creating a global network of alumni working to address issues of mining’s contribution to development in many different contexts. The closure of the centre in June 2015 offers an opportunity to reflect on the program, including lessons learned and future opportunities. Robin was appointed Deputy Director of the International Mining for Development Centre in 2011. A mining engineer by training, Robin has over 30 years of experience working in and around the resources industry. Various roles in industry and academia have taken him to mining regions and operations around Latin America, Australia and the Asia Pacific. Prior to joining IM4DC, he was based at The University of Queensland’s Centre for Social Responsibility in Mining (CSRM), where his work focused on the application of risk management and valuation processes to the area of sustainable development and minerals industry. He was also responsible for the development and co-ordination of CSRM’s Education and Training Program.
