Event Description

Full Description:
National Exercise Right Week (26th – 30th May) is calling for all Australians to get active and implement a regular physical activity regime.

In 2014 Australia released new physical activity guidelines on the benefits of being physically active, as well as providing tips for ways to move more every day. This seminar will go through the key recommendations of the guidelines and examine the evidence that provides the basis for the recommendations. It will examine the health benefits of leading an active lifestyle and offer suggestions for how to incorporate physical activity and minimise sedentary behaviour in everyday life. The seminar will also examine current evidence for physical activity and health using data from the Centre for Research on Exercise, Physical Activity and Health (CRExPAH) at the UQ School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences.

Presenter: Dr Toby Pavey is a Research Fellow Centre at CRExPAH, and has a current research focus on understanding, measuring and influencing physical activity and sedentary behaviour for improved health outcomes. His work involves behavioural epidemiology, intervention trials, and evaluation of measurement tools.
