Event Description
- Full Description:
- Massey University Senior Lecturer Chris Anderson is presenting a seminar on 'How a global system of training centres for artisanal miners is changing lives in developing countries'. Safe and responsible mining requires education for the communities that exploit small-scale mineral deposits using artisanal methods. To provide for community needs once a deposit is exhausted, they need to learn how to invest in infrastructure and human capital. Dr Anderson will also discuss the global system of training centres for artisanal miners led by the University of British Columbia. Dr Anderson is a Senior Lecturer in Earth Sciences at Massey University in New Zealand. He is also an Adjunct Professor at the Institute of Geochemistry of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and at the NBK Institute of Mining Engineering at the University of British Columbia.
