Course description

This course introduces students to ideas, arguments and critical debates within new fields of research into the sonic, visual and kinaesthetic dimensions of history. Topics explored include: modern and early modern soundscapes of gender, politics and identity; memory and the emotional dimension of landscapes; fashion and the social dimensions of bodily expression; film and the visual arts in times of revolutionary change. Students will gain advanced skills in historical research and analysis through designing and undertaking projects, producing essays, exhibition designs or digital resources.

Opportunities will be provided for students to undertake research in collaboration with the Fryer Library, state cultural institutions and other external partners engaged in the curation and exhibition history and heritage through sound and image.
