From 2006, students at The University of Queensland Ipswich Campus will have an even greater variety of study options with the introduction of four new degrees.
The Campus has extended its focus to include the new Bachelors of Arts, Business, Information Technology and Health Sciences.
The ever-popular Bachelor of Arts will be launched at the Campus from 2006. Students will be able to select from three new BA majors — Contemporary Studies, Music Cultures, and Cultural Studies of Science and Technology. The BA will replace the current Bachelor of Contemporary Studies as the humanities program at Ipswich.
The new Bachelor of Business will incorporate the current business majors at the Ipswich Campus under one degree. Students will undertake 12 core (compulsory) business courses, and then have the choice of specializing in a single or double major. The majors are: Accounting, Event Management, Hospitality Management, Online Business, Sport and Leisure Management, Travel and Tourism Management.
A traditional information technology degree with a design twist will form the basis of the new Bachelor of Information Technology (Interaction Design). The degree will combine traditional IT skills with a focus on design and human-computer interaction. In their first year of study, students will undertake courses to develop the core foundation of IT. They will then focus on the Interaction Design major, with an added elective focus, in their second and third years.
The new Bachelor of Health Sciences focuses on preparing graduates who are committed to promoting the general health and wellness of the community. The program was developed in response to health industry demand for skilled graduates who have a foundation in basic health sciences. Students will develop core knowledge in human biology and understanding and changing human behaviour, and will then focus on the population health and human behaviour and health communication management majors from their second year.
