The University of Queensland Ipswich Campus will hold its inaugural mid-year Graduation Ceremony in Ipswich this month.

Around 100 students across most faculties at the Campus are expected to graduate at the Ceremony, to be held at the Ipswich Civic Hall from 6pm on Monday, 18 July.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Ipswich Professor Alan Rix said the mid-year Graduation Ceremony would herald a new era for the Ipswich Campus.

“Until this time, the number of Ipswich Campus students who graduate mid-year have not warranted the need for a separate Ipswich ceremony,” Professor Rix said.

“The University is very pleased to be able to put forward our first substantial cohort of mid-year graduates for the Ipswich Campus and, most importantly, allow these students the opportunity to graduate at the city in which they studied.

“We look forward to introducing these graduates to Ipswich city, business and industry.”

One student counting down the days til the mid-year Ceremony is Bachelor of Electronic Commerce graduand Timothy Follett, who expects to graduate with an impressive grade point average of 6.3.

Flinders View resident and the 2001 Bremer State High School Captain, Timothy has already secured employment upon graduation, as an Auditor with Pitcher Partners Chartered Accountants in Brisbane.

Timothy was fortunate to be in the enviable position earlier this year of securing a wealth of job offers from some of the leading accounting and management consultancies in the country and internationally.

He said he chose Pitcher Partners due to the opportunities provided for career enhancement and individual satisfaction.

Timothy said while he is excited to be leaving tertiary study and commencing employment in his chosen profession, he will miss university life and the Ipswich Campus.

“When I graduated from high school I literally had the world at my feet – I could have gone anywhere,” he said.

“Not sure of what to do, I visited the Ipswich Campus for a tour and I didn’t look back.

“The Campus just sold itself – the facilities and support it provides for students is wonderful. And the Bachelor of Electronic Commerce has given me the excellent grounding needed to be able to pursue my career.”

Timothy plans to continue living in Ipswich and commuting by train to his new job in Brisbane.

“I really like Ipswich, and I look forward to being here for some time,” he said.
