The University of Queensland has a number of scholarships available to full-time, undergraduate students holding Commonwealth-supported (HECS-liable) places in 2005.
The scholarships provide financial assistance for students experiencing financial hardship and are intended to help alleviate some of the costs of university attendance.
These scholarships include the federally funded Commonwealth Learning Scholarships (CLS), the UQ Excellence Scholarships, the Group of Eight (Go8) and UQ-Link Residential Support Scholarships.
UQ will offer 486 CLS this year, 206 for rural students who have to move away from home to attend university (worth up to $4084 each) and 280 to help low-income students meet the cost of education (worth up to $2042 each).
UQ has been allocated the highest number of these scholarships in the country worth more than $1.4 million.
Students can apply for one or more of the scholarships and applications must be in by 5pm, February 14, 2005.
These scholarships will be allocated to students who are able to demonstrate academic merit (performance will be assessed on the basis of Year 12 or post-secondary results) and financial hardship.
The information and evidence provided should be sufficient to enable the Scholarships Selection Committee to comprehensively assess an applicant`s financial situation.
There is also a range of other scholarships and bursaries as well as single payment prizes available to UQ students. The criteria for awards vary considerably and while some require application, the majority are awarded on merit to students who have completed part or all of their programs.
