The inaugural UQ Research Week will be held from September 23, culminating in one of the University’s flagship events, the UQ Foundation Research Excellence Awards ceremony on September 26.
The Awards recognise outstanding performance and leadership potential of early-career researchers.
Other activities for the week will include a special public presentation by two of Australia’s leading scientists and the release of UQ’s 2002 Research Report.
The presentation, to be held at Mayne Hall on September 23, will involve Professor John Mattick, director of UQ’s Institute for Molecular Bioscience and Professor Perry Bartlett from the Walter and Eliza Hall Institute of Medical Research on the subject of curing human ailments in the year 2020.
Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor David Siddle said the aim of the week was to bring attention to the university’s considerable research strengths.
“We want to raise awareness in the business and general community that UQ is one of the country’s best performing research universities” he said.
