The University of Queensland in Australia has announced it will again offer School of Economics scholarships to Malaysian students in 2002.
Speaking in Kuala Lumpur where he is attending a University of Queensland graduation function, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International and Development) Professor Trevor Grigg said the scholarship scheme was exciting.
'We are delighted to be able offer another round of scholarships in the economics program, further strengthening the links between Malaysia and The University of Queensland,' Professor Grigg said.
Head of the UQ School of Economics, Professor John Foster, said under the scheme the UQ School of Economics offered a variety of scholarships for Malaysian students generally and specifically for students from Taylor's College.
'The scholarships are valued at RM$37,500 to RM$75,000 covering tuition fees for the 3-year duration of the degree,' Professor Foster said.
'This can be extended for a fourth year if, on completion of the Bachelor's scholarship, the student is offered a place in the Economics Honours program.'
The UQ School of Economics offered 13 degrees this year, with a total value of RM$637,000.
The UQ Kuala Lumpur graduation ceremony, involving 31 recent graduates, is being held on Wednesday March 14 at 8.30pm at the Hotel Nikko.
The event is being hosted by the Malaysian UQ Alumni Association and UQ Vice-Chancellor Professor John Hay. UQ Chancellor Sir Llewellyn Edwards is the presiding officer.
