From degrees in veterinary, equine and wildlife science, to agribusiness and rural management, why not let UQ Gatton Open Day help map out your career path in 2010?

Visitors to Open Day will have the opportunity to explore the campus facilities, talk with industry experts as well as learn about the unique courses and career options available.

Animal lovers are encouraged to attend the wildlife talk to hear about the new campus wildlife facility, which is home to 25 adult dunnarts and 10 gliders.

Visitors can also meet veterinary science teaching staff and view demonstrations on how to provide emergency first aid to a horse and treat hoof conditions in cows.

Students interested in studying the Bachelor of Applied Science, majoring in Veterinary Technology now have the opportunity to complete the Certificate IV in Veterinary Nursing, as part of their program, providing professional recognition and increasing their employability upon graduation.

The UQ School of Veterinary Science is currently relocating from St Lucia to Gatton. The new purpose-built facilities will give students, staff, and partners in industry, government, research organisations and the community access to the most comprehensive animal research, teaching and clinical facilities in Australia.

This, combined with the Centre for Advanced Animal Science (CAAS), which opened last year, will make the Gatton campus one of the best precincts for animal-related teaching, research and development.

Executive Dean Professor Roger Swift said for those interested in a career in agriculture, animals, veterinary science, food or the environment it was crucial to get along to the Gatton Open Day.

“Information stalls, presentations, tours and hands-on demonstrations will give prospective students and their families insight into life as a UQ student,” Professor Swift said.

“The agricultural industry is the largest in Australia and is keen to hire our graduates. Industry representatives will be involved in the day to showcase the wide variety of jobs available in these fields.”

Visitors to Open Day can also tour Gatton’s 10-hectare bushland park, the equine precinct, the plant nursery and laboratory facilities, as well as walk through Gatton’s Halls of Residence.

There will also be a jazz band and an array of dining options including international and traditional Australian cuisines within the UQ Food Court.

UQ’s Gatton Campus is located on the Warrego Highway, only a one-hour drive west of Brisbane and 25 minutes east of Toowoomba.

Free parking is available on campus all day. For more information on activities or to plan your personal Open Day itinerary click on http://www.youruq.com/openday/
