High-profile keynote speakers Reverend Tim Costello and Professor Ian Frazer lent their support to the Chrysalis international summer school held at UQ's Emmanuel College in December.

International Education Services (IES) and Emmanuel College were partners in Chrysalis, a global youth leadership conference held from December 12-19, 2010 at the College, with support from The University of Queensland.

Emmanuel College Principal Stewart Gill said the high calibre speakers were just part of the exciting program that was mapped out for Chrysalis students.

"Along with the Rev Tim Costello and Professor Ian Frazer we secured the 2010 Young Queenslander of the Year and founder of Youth Without Borders Yassmin Abdel-Magied as a keynote speaker," Professor Gill said.

"Chrysalis was Queensland education reaching out to the world, bringing together students from across the globe and throughout Australia to focus on issues of health, poverty, refugees, climate change and people movements.

"We also exposed international and Australian students to Indigenous culture as part of the program.

"In challenging times for the education market in Australia, we managed to attract interest and enthusiasm from around the world for this inaugural event.

"Chrysalis provided an international networking opportunity for youth from different cultures and backgrounds and will help them develop strategies that are vital for success in tertiary study and beyond."

Chrysalis was open to young people entering their final year of secondary school who were interested in examining some of the major contemporary world issues.

Students were resident at Emmanuel College during the summer school.
