The University of Queensland has confirmed its place as one of the top one per cent of world universities in the final results of the first QS Global ranking of universities by subjects released today.
UQ was ranked one of the world’s top universities in Law (world rank 35), Politics and International Studies (39), Accounting and Finance (40), Economics and Econometrics (41), Statistics and Operational Research (51-100), and Sociology (51-100).
QS (Quacquarelli Symonds) today released new world rankings in the six Social Sciences disciplines at www.topuniversities.com.
The QS World University Rankings are based on Academic Reputation, Employer Reputation and Citations per Paper.
The University of Queensland has featured within the published ranges of 26 subjects amongst the 26 ranked in 2011.

The full 2011 QS World University Rankings by Subject covering 26 disciplines are now available at www.topuniversities.com, providing a comprehensive comparison of the world's universities at departmental level.
The results correlate with UQ’s 43rd overall ranking in the top 200 QS World University Rankings® in 2010, placing UQ among the top one percent of more than 9000 international universities.
The Times Higher Education World Reputation Rankings 2011, which were published in March, lists four Australian universities - UQ, the University of Melbourne, University of Sydney and The Australian National University - in its top 100 universities worldwide.
UQ received 81st ranking in the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2010-2011 released last September.
UQ ranked among the top 18 universities in the Asia-Pacific region and 108th worldwide in the 2010 Academic Rankings of World Universities study conducted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University.
