The animals at the Gatton Show will be in good hands with veterinarians from The University of Queensland’s Veterinary Medical Centre working onsite throughout the event.

This is the second year that UQ Gatton veterinarian Jo Olm will be on call around the clock at the Gatton Show.

“We will be conducting health checks on the beef and dairy cattle, sheep, goats and horses in the different pavilions making sure that the animals are well looked after,” Mr Olm said.
“If an emergency does occur we will make an assessment in the field.

“If the animal requires further treatment there will also be specialist staff available for 24 hour emergency care just five minutes down the road at the UQ Veterinary Medical Centre which has a small animal and equine hospital.”

Vice-President of the Gatton Show Society Kath Raymont said it is critical having a vet on hand as there are over a 1000 animals involved in the Gatton Show.

“Cattle judging, show jumping, dressage and animal displays are a highlight of the show and having a veterinarian on hand makes sure it all runs smoothly,” Ms Raymont said.

“We’re very pleased that the UQ Veterinary Medical Centre is supporting the show.

“The University is an important part of our community so it is great to have them involved.”

The UQ Gatton Veterinary Medical Centre is open to the public and offers medical and surgical facilities for dogs, cats, horses, birds, reptiles, small mammals and fish.

It specialises in surgery, internal medicine for all species, lameness examinations, performance testing and reproduction in horses, exotics medicine and surgery.
