The University of Queensland Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Professor Joanne Wright said the University welcomed the review of the Overall Position system.

"We would be pleased to work with a system that allows for greater precision when it comes to making admission decisions about Queensland school leavers applying for university places," Professor Wright said.

"Differentiating individual applicants from large numbers of other students in their OP cohort can be difficult under the current broadly banded OP system.

"While UQ relies significantly on the OP score to determine which Queensland Year 12 school leavers would be offered places across almost all of the University’s undergraduate programs, there are other factors such as field positions (FP) that are also taken into consideration."

Professor Wright said the Queensland Government advertised for suitably qualified organisations to apply for the tender to undertake the review and Australian Council for Educational Research was well placed to provide that service to the government.
