An undergraduate female student has been taken to hospital following an incident today at the Hartley Teakle Building at UQ’s St Lucia campus at 2pm.

The Bachelor of Food Technology student, and a female Master of Food Studies coursework student both sustained acid burns during a routine food science practical experiment in a fume cupboard in the School of Land, Crop and Food Sciences.

The Masters student was subsequently discharged from the University’s Health Services and the undergraduate student received treatment on site before departing by ambulance.

The University’s Division of Occupational Health and Safety and Queensland Workplace Health and Safety are investigating.
