The University of Queensland and the Ipswich Art Gallery have announced a three-year sponsorship arrangement for The University of Queensland Gallery within the Ipswich Art Gallery.
Professor Alan Rix, Pro-Vice-Chancellor Ipswich, said he was pleased that UQ Ipswich was given this opportunity to develop its partnership with the Ipswich Art Gallery and to increase the region's interaction with the University.
“We have been discussing the program of exhibitions to be held in the space in the coming months and I can see that The University of Queensland Gallery will allow us to reach out to local business, families and civic communities in a whole new way,” he said.
“It is a pleasing coincidence that the next exhibition to open in the Gallery is of selected works by multimedia students graduating from The University of Queensland Ipswich campus. A perfect showcase for our students and this gallery.”
Arts, Community and Cultural Services Committee Chairperson Cr Charlie Pisasale said the University of Queensland Gallery within the Ipswich Art Gallery wass a space which could include both contemporary and new media art forms.
“This is an exciting development and a wonderful commitment to the development of Ipswich’s cultural profile," he said.
“The Gallery will feature about six exhibitions per year making use of the new media capabilities of the space.”
One of the most visited regional art galleries in Australia, the Ipswich Art Gallery presents a dynamic program of changing exhibitions and heritage displays, special events, performances, family activities and art workshops.
Negotiated through the Ipswich Arts Foundation, The University of Queensland Gallery will feature a dynamic program of contemporary and new media exhibitions.
