The "healthy living" message will be the centre of a day of fun on Wednesday September 19 at The University of Queensland Ipswich campus.

The celebrations will kick off at 11am with the launch of the UQ Ipswich Walking Trail, which will feature a "mass walk" with students, staff and a number of large fruit and vegetable costumed characters.

Pro-Vice-Chancellor Professor Alan Rix said the UQ Ipswich Walking Trail was an initiative of the campus in conjunction with the Health Services Program, Property and Facilities Division and the University Health Service.

"The campus Walking Trail provides an opportunity for staff and students to get active on campus and to take in the fantastic views to the west, and to the south towards Mount Flinders," Professor Rix said.

"The launch has also given a team of final year Communication students a chance to draw attention to the healthy living message through a number of entertaining and educational activities.

"The students have coordinated entertaining displays, free fruit samples, a banana eating competition and a healthy versus unhealthy tug-of-war between the fruit and veg characters and an unwelcome large burger.

"With the students' assistance and the support of the University Health Service, this event will be a fun way to remind our busy staff and students of the importance of healthy eating, regular exercise and maintaining work / life balance."

The event has received great in the form of promotional materials, costumes and donations of fresh fruit, from Queensland Health, Ipswich Hospital Foundation and the Australian Banana Growers Council.
