The University of Queensland announced today it will offer its national award-winning Middle Years of Schooling teacher education program in external mode from next year.
From 2008, students will be able to choose to complete some courses externally, with all courses in the Graduate Diploma in Education (MYS) available for external study from 2009.
“We’re very excited to be creating teachers all around Australia and the world,” said Associate Professor Donna Pendergast from the School of Education at the University's Ipswich campus.
"We know that some people find that family or work responsibilities make attending university complicated.
“Students can now work towards a new career as a teacher by studying externally at the leading university in Queensland”.
The Middle Years of Schooling (MYS) Program prepares students for teaching Years 6-9 upper primary and lower secondary through dual degree and graduate entry programs. Middle Years of Schooling is recognised as a crucial stage of schooling with significant consequences for educational success. MYS graduates teach across key learning areas and have developed skills to understand and manage issues related to young adolescents.
The Graduate Diploma in Education (MYS) will be offered as a multimodal program from 2008. Applications are available from the School of Education website or Building 3, Ipswich Campus.
