The University of Queensland has congratulated a distinguished graduate who has been honoured with the Premier of Queensland Expatriate Achievement Award.

Dr Andrew Liveris, the President, Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of The Dow Chemical Company, was announced as 2007 winner of the award by Queensland Premier Peter Beattie in New York.

Dr Liveris, who in 2005 was made UQ’s Alumnus of the Year and granted an honorary doctorate, graduated with a Bachelor of Engineering (Chemical) in 1975. He is based in the United States, from where he continues to make substantial contributions to the UQ community.

When he received his honorary doctorate he described UQ as “the place where I learned how to learn”.
Vice-Chancellor Professor John Hay, AC, said the expatriate award was further recognition of Dr Liveris’s exceptional value as a Queensland-educated global industry leader.

“UQ is immensely proud to call Andrew Liveris an alumnus, and very appreciative of his ongoing relationship with the University,” Professor Hay said.
