UQ has put in a top four performance at the finals of the Philip C Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Washington DC.
The team of students from UQ’s TC Beirne School of Law reached the semi-final of the international competition held last week, losing out to eventual winners the University of Sydney.
The team consisting of Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws students Anthony Bremner, Laura Grant, Jessica Howley, Belinda McRae and Angus O’Brien reached the international finals via a victory over the University of Sydney in the Australian regional finals.
The Jessup Moot Competition draws more than 100 teams from 85 countries to compete for overall honours and places students as representatives in a dispute before the International Court of Justice in the largest competition of its kind in the world.
UQ has demonstrated a tradition of excellence in the competition with the UQ team reaching the international final the last three years, winning in 2005.
Dr Jonathan Crowe of the TC Beirne School of Law said the team members were grateful for the support of the Mooting Program sponsors, Allens Arthur Robinson, Dibbs Abbott Stillman and Minter Ellison.
