Judith Mair is an Associate Professor and Discipline Leader of the Tourism Discipline Group in the UQ Business School. Dr Monica Chien is a Senior Lecturer in the School of Business at the University of Queensland. She has conducted extensive research into mega-event legacies and leveraging, sponsorship, branding, destination marketing, and consumer behaviour of past Olympic Games. She has particular insights into the Tokyo 2020 and London 2012 Games, and can comment on the opportunities that the Games will open up for businesses, sponsorship strategies and measurement, and impact of scandal.

Professor John Quiggin
John Quiggin is a Professor in Economics at The University of Queensland and is prominent both as a research economist and as a commentator on Australian economic policy. Despite the optimistic projections often made for such events, he said the economic outcomes of major sporting events involving large government spending have generally been poor. However, with careful planning it should be possible to keep costs down, and produce an event that will have net benefits for the people of Queensland.

Associate Professor Pierre Benckendorff
Associate Professor Pierre Benckendorff is an award-winning researcher specialising in visitor behaviour and tourism. He can comment on the Games being used as leverage to prioritise funding that will fast-track major infrastructure projects. He said the Olympics generates significant global media coverage, and this will stimulate new international flight connections in and out of Brisbane and the Gold Coast.

Dr Emma Beckman is a Teaching and Research academic in the School of Human Movement and Nutrition Sciences. Dr Beckman can provide expert comment on the Paralympics and disability sport. She is also an internationally accredited classifier in para athletics.
