The University of Queensland's Customs House has added another award to its already impressive list of accolades.

Customs House was crowned Caterer of the Year at the 2016 Queensland and Northern Territory Savour Australia Restaurant and Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence in Brisbane this week.

Director Mr Brian Roberts said his venue also won the Function/Convention Centre Caterer category.

“The Customs House team is dedicated to excellence across all its activities, and this is a fitting tribute to their work,” Mr Roberts said.

More than 550 restaurants, cafes and catering businesses were involved in the awards, which were judged across 38 categories.

“These awards are recognised across Australia as a celebration of the exceptional service and culinary talent across Queensland and the NT,” Mr Roberts said.

Customs House edged out the Cairns Convention Centre and Epicure at Brisbane City Hall to take out the major award.

Restaurant and Catering Awards chief executive officer Mr John Hart said Customs House should be proud of its achievements.

“Running a hospitality business isn’t easy,” he said.

“There’s a lot of blood, sweat and tears that goes into to making it work.

“But when you get the right mix of staff, produce and service, the results can be extraordinary.”

Mr Roberts said Customs House would compete at the National Savour Australia Restaurant and Catering Hostplus Awards for Excellence in Sydney on 24 October

Customs House was crowned State and national Caterer of the Year in 2013 and 2014, and won the Contemporary Australian Restaurant – Formal section at the 2015 state awards. A full list of awards collected by Customs House is available here.
