Queensland charities and not-for-profit organisations will have the opportunity to boost their volunteer numbers at The University of Queensland’s annual Volunteer Expo on August 17, 2016.

UQ welcomes organisations to register for the annual event, which last year attracted more than 1500 students and featured up to 60 charities.

UQ Careers Service Manager Daniel Capper said the expo connected motivated students with local and national volunteer organisations to help with their mission and gave students a competitive edge in the job market.

“The event is free for all Australian registered charities and not-for-profit organisations, so is a really accessible way for them to reach the UQ student population,” Mr Capper said.

Volunteering Queensland’s Vanessa Codling said the expo represented an invaluable opportunity for organisations to recruit enthusiastic, skilled students for roles ranging from events volunteering through to specialist projects.

“Exhibitors will benefit from engaging with passionate student volunteers who are energetic and want to help them achieve their mission and raise awareness of their cause,” Ms Codling said.

“The time exhibitors invest in attending the UQ Volunteer Expo is an investment in the diversity of their volunteer program that will offer long-term return.”

“It is vital to the community at large to build the next generation of volunteers and it’s a great day out that will help ensure the sustainability of your volunteer program.”

Ms Codling said volunteering by young people was critical to the sustainability of a healthy community.

“Youth volunteering is on the rise and it’s vital for the sustainability of the volunteer movement,” Ms Codling said.

“We are passionate about encouraging young people to get involved in their community.”
