Mid-terms stressing you out? Get behind The University of Queensland Red Cross Society’s inaugural Merriment Movement, running from Tuesday 12 - Friday 15 May.

UQ Red Cross Society is a student run initiative that connects students to Australian Red Cross volunteer opportunities, professional development resources, fundraising activities and social events.

UQ Red Cross Society President Alynna Wong said the Merriment Movement, run in conjunction with UQ Union, included the collaboration of 20 different university clubs across a variety of different fields.

“The movement aims to enhance the mental and physical wellbeing of students and encourage an enriched university experience,” she said.

“The Merriment Movement invites students to take part in various de-stress activities such as a carnival lunch event, free yoga sessions, bubble soccer and capture the flag.

“There will also be workshops on topics such as healthy eating, body image, dealing with mental health issues and managing exam stress.”

At the end of the week, the society will host a party to give students the chance to mingle, have fun and develop friendships.

“There’s a certain type of bond you build with people when you’re doing something good,” Ms Wong said.

“In this club, it really doesn’t matter what faculty, country or background you’re from, you’ll find something in common.

“The UQ Red Cross Society aims to unite people who wish to embrace the principle of humanity and genuinely want to make a change in the world.

“The people who run the UQ Red Cross Society are all university students and volunteer their time to build a platform where students can meet likeminded people and generate a positive environment for change.”

The Merriment Movement is supported by a UQ Sponsorship Grant from the UQ Advantage Office and funding from UQ Union.
