University of Queensland alumnus Anne Cross has been named the 2014 Telstra Queensland Business Women of the Year in recognition of her outstanding achievements in the health and community services sector.
The distinguished social work graduate and CEO of UnitingCare Queensland also received the Community and Government Award at the 2014 Telstra Queensland Business Women’s Awards, held in Brisbane.
UQ School of Social Work and Human Services head Dr Rose Melville said it was wonderful to see such a distinguished alumni acknowledged for her many accomplishments.
“We are immensely proud of the work Ms Cross has undertaken,” Dr Melville said.
“We have a very close working relationship with UnitingCare, which co-funds the Industry Chair of Professor Jill Wilson.
“Ms Cross was appointed an Honorary Professor with the school in recognition of her work in the Queensland health and community sector and her long-term relationship with the school”.
Passionate about the not-for-profit sector, Ms Cross was appointed to lead UnitingCare in 2003, which heralded a merger of more than 100 separate aged care, community services and hospitals.
“I care about the wellbeing of people and communities and am driven by the contribution not-for-profit organisations make to the social and economic life of Australia,” Ms Cross said.
The Queensland winners proceed to the national finals in Melbourne on 26 November.
Finalists will share $650,000 in cash and prizes.
The Telstra Business Women’s Awards was established to recognise, reward and celebrate the achievements of inspirational Australian women.
