A new University of Queensland St Lucia campus CityCat ferry terminal will open in 2015.

The Brisbane City Council has started building the new terminal, and is installing electrical and hydraulic works off Sir William McGregor Drive near the UQ Lakes busway.

The original CityCat terminal was damaged in the 2011 floods and a temporary terminal was installed near the UQ pool to have services operating as quickly as possible.

UQ Transport Systems Manager Mark Kranz said the new terminal would cater for an increasing number of passengers and would include a state-of-the-art gangway to reduce the impact of serious floods.

“The terminal is designed to be flood-resilient, as well as have improved accessibility for people with a disability or vision impairment and will provide seating for 30 people,” Mr Kranz said.

“We envisage that more students, staff and visitors will use the CityCat to travel to the St Lucia campus as a result of the new terminal and will benefit from the terminal’s proximity to the UQ Lakes bus station and Eleanor Schonell Bridge.”

Work will continue until early to mid-2015. The existing UQ St Lucia CityCat terminal will continue to operate until the new one opens.
