More than 300 gifted young minds are expected to converge at The University of Queensland’s St Lucia campus in March to attend a full day of intellectually stimulating workshops.

The Explorama program, run by Kids College Queensland, brings gifted and talented children together to challenge their critical thinking, problem solving skills and creativity in 14 one-day workshops.

Jason Green from Kids College Queensland said Explorama created an opportunity for UQ to connect with students of the future from the Brisbane, Gold Coast, Toowoomba and the Sunshine Coast areas, exposing high achievers to potential academic aspirations.

“The Explorama program has been developed for the primary school-aged, problem solving, creative, intellectual child,” Mr Green said.

“Typically, students who attend Explorama participate in the extension and enrichment programs at their school and have strong learning abilities and strengths and talents in particular curriculum areas.

“Students are able to delve into the ancient world through a Medieval Madness program, or take part in fun science and physics programs.

“They can join a team of forensic scientists in workshop, learn to paint like Monet, dive into the underwater world of marine biology and explore real-life, ocean creatures in the Ocean Life Discovery workshop.”

He said other workshops included drama workshops, where children are encouraged to “act and dance like nobody is watching”, and think “outside the box” with the Fun with Maths program.

Online registrations are open until March 7. Parents can secure their child’s place by emailing enquiries@kidscollegeqld.com.au or visit www.kidscollegeqld.com.au.

The Explorama program is made possible through the efforts of Kids College Queensland and the support The University of Queensland.
